Penny Pinching

OK, help me out... again. I want to know about the "disposable" things that you re-use. Nothing gross, please! I am doing a series on the recession. Anybody else sick of that word yet?

Anyway, one article I came across had the readers send in ideas on the things that re-use. I did ask for input from my readers. But I think I may have at least two more here than there, so why not tap all of my resources?

So, you can leave a comment, send me an e-mail, whatever. And give me as many as you'd like.

And if you ever have any ideas or questions that would make a good article or two, or a partial article, please share!

Well, I don't know that I'm ultra resourceful when it comes to reusing things, but....

--------

I save and reuse wipes containers for small objects (toy cars, crayons, etc.)

Toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls are fun toys for the kids or make for great craft projects.

Bread bags can be reused as a stinky diaper holder until trash day.

We reuse our egular grocery store plastic bags in all of our bathroom trash cans. But I'm pretty sure everyone in the world does that.

We save our aluminum cans and freeze grease in them until trash day.

If you have earplugs handy, kids love to bang on empty coffee or hot chocolate tins with wooden spoons. And on that note, anything w/ a lid can be converted to a "maraca" (baking powder tins, etc.) by adding a bit of rice or beans. But obviously, make sure you glue the top down.

--------

I think that's all I have for you right now. Hope your "recruiting project" goes well! :)

I use dryer sheets (used) for a quick dusting (smells good and really attracts the dust!).

We keep ALL non-recyclable plastic dishes for use at Holidays when I send people home with TONS of food. When I have too much, we donate them to soup kitchens or other places to use.

We use Christmas cards as present "tags" for the next year. We cut out the pretty image on the front of the card and use it as a gift tag for the following year!

Glass baby food jars are great for storing small things like buttons, beads and even spice mixes or if you are really good - you can make candles.

For us the paper towel rolls or tp rolls are great doy toys!

We reuse our "gatorade" bottles and mix up powder for next use.

This isn't really re-using but we really strongly believe in recycling but refuse to pay for it. So we take our recyclables to a drop off site and also PAPER. So many pieces of paper are tossed into the trash. We save all our paper (with the addresses ripped off and shredded) including shredding and take them to recycling drop-offs (ABITIBI). It saves on TONS of trash and just takes a couple minutes of our time.

Oh, I guess I re-use old pillowcases to hold the paper and shredding for recycling!

Old sheets make great napkins or if big enough tablecloths or placemats or if they are in really bad shape, they become dog beds.

Well, that is all I can think of now!
