Awkward, pt. 3

Tristin is usually pretty happy to just play by himself. He loves to pretend and run around, and sometimes you wonder if he knows what is going on. You may have to call his name a couple of times before getting a response.

Maura on the other hand picks up everything. She always has. It's actually kind of creepy.

Anyway, the other day Maura asked how we get hamburger from cows. I gave a quick rundown on grinding up some meat along with fat.... She asked if the cow had to be dead to get the meat, and I replied yes.

She asked how the people killed the cow.

I asked her if she really wanted to know.

*a tiny side note, Maura is one of those children who when talking with them, you sometimes forget their true age. I am actually surprised when she acts like a 4 year old because she often times doesn't think or speak that way. So when I asked her if she really wanted to know, I temporarily forgot that she really doesn't know one way or another if she truly wants to know!*

Of course she said yes, so I told her that the cows are usually shot since it is quick and relatively painless for the cow. She went along her merry way, and it was no longer discussed.

Back to Tristin.

A few days after the above conversation, Tristin came into the kitchen where I was doing dishes. He stopped and said, "Mom!" He will continue to say my name over and over until I BOTH look at him and answer back. When I stopped what I was doing and answered, she said, "Mommy, cows die."

I said, yes, they do. He stood there a moment longer and then said, "Mommy, I don't want to shoot a cow."

When I told him he didn't have to, we was very happy and went back to killing whatever creature was destroying his cars and toy dinosaurs*.

*not reptar, of course

Thanks for the chuckle this morning:)

Stephen does that yelling-Mom-until-I-both-look-and-answer, too. Aren't they great?!

Hopefully Tristin won't be terrified of hamburgers now.
